Keep Your Sinuses Clear and Breathe Freely During Colds and Flu

Neti Pot is a simple yet powerful tool used to cleanse the nasal passages and sinus pathways. This practice, rooted in Ayurveda and used for thousands of years, can significantly improve your quality of life—especially if you struggle with recurring sinus or respiratory issues.

Do any of these sound familiar?

  • Do you catch colds frequently?
  • Do you experience nasal swelling, seasonal allergies, or other allergic reactions in spring?
  • Do you often have one nostril blocked?
  • Do you breathe more easily after swimming in the sea during summer?
  • Do you suffer from sinus infections?
  • Do you struggle with migraine headaches?
  • Do you often feel heaviness or fullness in your head?

If you nodded yes, the Neti Pot can be an effective solution for you. By flushing your sinuses with warm, lightly salted water, it uses the natural force of gravity to clear out dust, allergens, microparticles, and microbes. This gentle rinse helps the tiny cilia lining your respiratory tract move more freely, so they can better protect your airways.

Who Should Try Neti Pot Cleansing?

This practice is soothing and protective, particularly in the cold and flu seasons. It is especially beneficial for people who:

  • Suffer from sinusitis or migraines
  • Have allergic rhinitis
  • Sneeze frequently
  • Struggle with constant runny nose
  • Feel the need to clean their nose several times a day
  • Experience yellow-green nasal discharge
  • Deal with postnasal drip and cough
  • Work in crowded environments
  • Attend school or spend time in shared spaces

Ideally, this should be done every morning as part of your daily hygiene routine—just like brushing your teeth. If symptoms are intense, or if you snore, repeating the practice before bedtime is also recommended.

⚠️ Important: Do not use the Neti Pot if you have an ear infection or have recently undergone nasal surgery. In all other cases, it is considered safe and highly effective.

Preparing for Neti Pot Use

  • Choose a high-quality porcelain Neti Pot for the best and safest results. At Daily Wellbeing, we proudly offer premium porcelain Neti Pots designed for effective sinus cleansing and long-lasting use.Make sure the pot is clean after every use.
  • A Neti Pot is a personal item—never share it.
  • Always use clean water at body temperature (not too hot, not too cold).
  • Prepare a saline solution: dissolve half a teaspoon of sea salt (non-iodized) into about 500 ml of warm water. The goal is to achieve a balance close to the body’s natural salinity (0.9%). Adjust the salt ratio if it feels too strong or too weak.

How to Perform Sinus Cleansing with a Neti Pot

  1. Stand in front of a sink with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Place the spout of the Neti Pot into one nostril.
  3. Tilt your head to the opposite side, open your mouth, and breathe through your mouth.
  4. Allow the saline water to flow gently into one nostril and out through the other—using gravity, not pressure. Be patient; it may take a few seconds to start flowing.
  5. Continue until the solution has passed through completely.
  6. Repeat the same process on the other side.

What Science Says

Dr. Jordan Josephson from the New York Sinus Center, in his book Sinus Relief Now, explains that our nasal structure struggles to cope with today’s environmental pollution. Just as we brush our teeth, we should also clean our nasal passages regularly.

Research supports this: a 2002 study with 76 participants showed that those with allergic rhinitis and sinusitis who practiced daily Neti Pot cleansing needed fewer antibiotics and experienced fewer symptoms over six months.
